Ensuring compliance with mandatory memorial testing
In accordance with legal requirements, memorials situated in both open and closed churchyards and cemeteries must undergo testing. These assessments, conducted by trained professionals, are required every five years. Any unstable or hazardous memorials are identified and then cordoned off.
Safeguarding memorials with expert testing and cost-effective solutions
At The CDS Group, we offer straightforward, cost-effective solutions for comprehensive memorial stability testing. Our approach aligns seamlessly with British Standards and the guidelines outlined in the Ministry of Justice Paper. With a team comprised of skilled and experienced professionals, we begin with an initial visual evaluation of each memorial to ensure its safety. Subsequently, a meticulous hand load test is conducted on each memorial. Our process includes capturing photographs of headstones requiring attention, alongside detailed memorial information, using a handheld tablet. In instances where a memorial is deemed unsafe, appropriate cordoning measures are applied, mitigating risks to the public and grounds staff.
Guiding the way with comprehensive reporting
After the assessment, we will compile a detailed report for future reference, outlining any memorials that have failed and need repairs or safety measures. With the unsafe memorials now identified, our CDS team can present suitable recommendations and repair costs, or propose laying down the memorial if it’s deemed the safest course of action.
To facilitate memorial stability testing, an accurate cemetery/graveyard map is essential. This map allows our team to pinpoint any unsafe memorials. If such a map isn’t available, CDS can create an accurate one, enabling clients to verify existing records with precision.
