Drainage Assessment and Design

Setting the Standard for Modern Cemetery Solutions

Drainage in cemeteries is complex due to physical, environmental and practical constraints. That’s why we specialise in crafting tailored resolutions for both surface and groundwater challenges.

We designed and project-managed the country’s first deep groundwater drainage system for cemeteries; leading the way with a new methodology which has since become established as best practice.

Our Three Step Approach

Stage 1: Identifying the problem

Before any assumptions are made, our soil engineers and drainage specialists meticulously survey the site, covering:

  • Topographic and hydro-topographic study
  • Hydro-geological investigation
  • Deep core sampling
  • Profile pit analysis
  • Soil assessment
  • Outfall design options
  • Utility mapping

From this data, our engineers determine:

  • Current and temporal water table levels
  • Risks of leaching, eutrophication, and attenuation
  • Presence and causes of impermeable soil layers
  • Soil stability and excavation feasibility
  • Drainage and surface water management options

The findings lead to a detailed report with a problem nature, design recommendations and cost summaries.

Stage 2: Define a Solution

Upon budget approval, Stage 2 involves:

  • Detailed drainage design drawings
  • Comprehensive specification documents
  • Tender documents including quantities
  • Tender contract management

Stage 3: Project Management

After contractor selection, CDS ensures design precision, on-time delivery and adherence to budget. Our ongoing client relationship package, along with thorough contractor briefings by our engineers, ensures meticulous project monitoring from start to finish.

Our specialist technical services provide management of the following areas:

  • Dewatering and lowering of groundwater levels through deep drainage techniques
  • Surface water and catch-all drainage systems
  • Spring line diversion and cut off
  • Reed bed construction
  • Grey water management (grave pumping and environmental wastewater management)
  • Onsite water treatment systems
